Greg Palast’s Book Tour brings big crowds

Boulder, CO, June 15, 2006 - Over 600 people crowded the sanctuary of Boulder’s First United Methodist Church Thursday night to hear Greg Palast talk about his latest book, “Armed Madhouse.” His mission on this tour is twofold. To spread the word about truths the mainstream media refuses to touch and to show the mainstream media that the majority of Americans are hungry for these truths because they are vital to our very survival.

Palast draws large audiences wherever he goes, talking about how the last two National Elections were stolen from us, about the true nature of Big Oil’s world games and the threat of war in Venezuela because of them, about the moral malignancy of privatizing such things as hurricane planning, and how we can become informed about these subjects. “We can’t prevent the theft of the ’08 election until we know the crazy details of the theft of ’04. We can’t stop the coming war in Venezuela until we learn the weird story of how Big Oil mapped out Iraq’s petroleum destiny.”

He says that people are always asking him what they can do about such matters and his response is that you can’t do anything until you are informed and that is why he wrote this book and why he gives these speeches. Martin Luther King lll was so impressed by Palast’s efforts to clean up our voting system that he recently told him he was going to put a copy of “Armed Madhouse” on his father’s grave.

Early in his talk he spoke of visiting a precinct in New Mexico which is largely made up of Native American voters, the voting segment least likely to have their votes counted. He kept coming back to them throughout his speech and then at the end, he said that at this one particular pueblo, the people raise their American flag and salute it every day. When he asked someone why, he was told, “They took away our land and resources and they took away our youth (going to war), but we’ll be damned if we’ll let them take away our country.” This particularly affected me because for a long time I’ve been ashamed of our flag. Maybe we can become informed enough to effect such changes that we no longer have to feel shame.
