In this interview Jerry and Dave discuss some of the many reasons they feel George Bush should be impeached and the fact that there are so many, it’s difficult to focus on only one. When asked by St. Martin’s Press to write the book, in October of 2005, he thought it was an odd request, believing at that time that impeachment would not be feasible and was imagining a book that would be light-hearted and humorous. As he began his research he quickly became aware that not only was it feasible but it was necessary. “Every few weeks, Bush did something else that was impeachable.”

He feels that the only reason the US is in Iraq is that Bush wanted to be a War President from day one and that this single-minded desire has colored all his actions.

Dave’s co-author, Barbara Olshansky, is in addition, the attorney for many of the detainees at Guantanamo Bay. He relates just one example of the sadistic nature of those prisoner’s situations, a boy who was arrested at the age of twelve who committed suicide after five years of tortuous imprisonment, never knowing because he was never told, that he was due to be released within three days. This boy’s suicide was one of the three occurring last June that Donald Rumsfeld designated “asymmetrical warfare.”

Jerry wonders how we have sunk so low and how people are found willing to staff the detainee prisons and why members of Congress seemingly have no pride, as evidenced by their acquiescence regarding everything Bush has done. Dave agrees that they are lapdogs and that if they allow the signing statements to stand, they have become nothing but a vestigial body, once again underlining the necessity of removing Bush before he has two more years to undermine the American system.
