In Jerry's Opinion An introductory note from Jerry Pippin: Jerry Wilhite was a high school classmate of mine. We were active in high school debate and other competitive speech activities. We have stayed in contact all these years, but we drifted apart over political issues. Wilhite leaned and voted for Republicans, I have only voted for one Republican in my entire life and that was for a local candidate here in Oklahoma. He did not win and the other man who I did not know as well as been an excellent steward of his office. Wilhite moved to Houston a few years back from Southern California and received a wake up call about the Bush clan and Republicans in general. He now wants them all purged from office. I urge you to read these columns, they are filled with insight and a view of the world that I find refreshing. We are calling this group of essays, " Is It November. Yet?" Please read his columns and feel free to respond to Jerry's articles at wilhite@jerrypippin.com. You can read what our commentators have to say on
these pages. For easy access to past articles, click on the dates below:
The time has come to talk of things to come. If we don’t mess it up we have a chance, an excellent chance, of having a Democrat in the White House. The worst Democrat is probably better than the best Republican, so that’s a good thing. However that needs to be the beginning of a sweeping movement to vote out incumbents. Some may be good; most are bad. They are all guilty of one thing, not following the will of the people. They felt they owned government. It existed only to provide an excellent income opportunity. They are wrong, but only if we band together and fire them will the new breed get the message. That message will be that performance counts. Following the precept of the Constitution is important. Working for the public need, rather than feathering their nests must become second nature to them. If the new breed doesn’t understand that, we will fire them and send another to take their place. Never again shall we allow the assault on our personal liberties. This administration has even thrown aside Habeas Corpus, the very platform upon which our legal system flourished. They have done so much that is undermining our country they should be jailed as terrorist suspects and sent to Gitmo This after being interrogated by the same people they use for interrogations. I would imagine their attitude toward cruel and unusual treatment would do an about face. All of this can come to fruition only if we stay united in a
common cause. That cause is to return America to the country known for
fairness and justice for all. Only then will I consider the mission to be
accomplished.
I wonder how the world will feel about America after the Neo-Cons who have hijacked our government are gone. This assumes a McCain loss for he may be a bigger proponent of war than Bush-Cheney combined. He never made Admiral in the Navy, but now is eyeing the Commander-in-Chief role. Don’t you just know he is chomping at the bit to cause the bombing of Iran? We have placed wreathes on far too many doors in America under the supposed watch of Bush-Cheney. Both of these greedy cowards knew there was no proof of WMD’s, even as they appeared to believe Saddam had them, and the capability to strike America in about forty-five minutes, day or night. History now shows Iraq had zero to do with the events of 9-11. We are involved in an unjust action against civilians in their homeland. How long will it take for the free world to welcome, once more, America, the peacemaker? How long until we agree that global warming is a better explanation that anything parroted by the Bush Bunch to explain changes to the world that could be very harmful? What if the scientific community is right and Bush and his unskilled appointee’s are dead wrong? We all remember, “Good job, Brownie," uttered while figuring out how to fire good old Brownie. Will civilization give us time to become a member in good standing once more? Will China continue to support us fiscally? Without their loans there would be no Iraq occupation. What happens with Pakistan? What happens to Afghanistan? Does the big guy on the camel still run our foreign policy? It seems that as he flits from country to country he does not fear us catching him. We are a laughing stock due to our failure to apprehend Osama Bin Laden. Does anyone but me believe we are incapable, with our military might, to subdue Al Qaeda? What about Mullah Omar and the Taliban? We haven’t even made headway against them. It is said that George Bush is concerned with how his administration will be remembered? It will be remembered as the dumbest group ever to draw pay from the United States taxpayers. His record for foreign policy will be used as an example of what not to do forever. His domestic policies will be viewed as how to control a nation unused to insurrection by its leaders. The elections are drawing near. Many people are looking for habitation outside the country, just in case the election is again stolen, and punishment is not meted out immediately. Americans must go to the polls and vote. If you can drive there in a Hummer, vote Republican. For all the rest of us who are hoping our cars make it to the polls, vote Democrat!! Run, Obama,
Run!! Run, Obama, run. You are being pursued by Rocky in heels and a mini-skirt!! This, my friend, is no April Fools joke. The threat is very, very real. The hooligan pursuing you seldom loses…and never gives up. Arming yourself with facts and figures will provide no relief. She will simply bat them aside and continue to throw hooks to the head. She is capable of charm and humor. She is also capable of a Piranha appetite if she senses weakness. She is not a bad person, just wants what she wants when she wants it! Run, Obama, run. You are in a campaign unlike any I recall. Everybody likes somebody. People want change. The campaign has been relatively cordial, but man, watch out for the stiletto heels. They can hurt!!
“And the Band Played On!!”
I don’t really know the origin of this, but feel it was a tribute to the band on the Titanic who continued to play, even as their ship tried to throw them into the sea. Today we have a similar situation, the Obama-Clinton race for the Presidency. Today, two bands playing on, in the near future one survivor will stand victorious. Many feel this race will damage the chances for the Democrats in the general election. However, both parties are fully entitled to fight to the end. The so-called mud slinging that has occurred has been relatively very minor. That isn’t the problem. I believe this is the first time I have seen the electorate so firmly committed to a candidate, no matter which one. It is a very possible scenario to conclude there will be two bands still playing at the convention. Large numbers of followers of each candidate have said they will vote for Nader, or McCain, or stay home if their candidate is not the bandleader in the General Election. I have repeatedly stated that I would prefer a Democrat in office than a Republican. The Democrats have much work to do to restore our rights and liberties. The Republicans are quite happy to keep feathering the nest of their cronies until our currency is worthless. Think, people, before you give away your vote in a snit. The losers in that scenario are all Americans. By all means, fight like Hell for your bandleader. But, when push comes to shove in the General Election, vote Democrat. We plainly can’t afford Republicans anymore!! Meanwhile, the bands play on!!
There seems to be concern that the Democratic Party may explode if the candidate situation is not settled by the convention date. I don’t think so. Order will prevail and a good candidate will emerge from the convention. The Democrats could go four or five deep and still defeat war-mongering McCain. McCain has aligned himself too closely to the Bush-Cheney crowd. Those guys could be picked up under the Patriot Act and sent to Gitmo to be questioned by Muslim interrogators. Wouldn’t you like to see video of that? The Republicans have virtually assured a blood bath in the House and Senate with something like forty of them not standing for re-election. There are a number of Democrats who should be fired also. They forgot they were to serve the people: not pillage them. Top Democrat leadership did not do enough to protect us from the civil injustices committed by the Bush-Cheney bunch. Now, as to the issue of race and dirty politics. We have a black Democrat, a white female Democrat, and a Republican warmonger. McCain is getting a free ride as the Democrats continue to battle, as is their right. The quicker resolution can be made by the Democrats, the quicker they can begin to point out McCain’s numerous weaknesses. He has vowed to stay in Iraq a hundred years if that is what it takes. He has indicated a willingness to attack Iran. One of the things I often puzzle over is why Iraq, why Iran? They had zero to do with the events of 9-11. Bill Clinton has long had my admiration, but he has lost it in this campaign. For former President Clinton to infer that Obama was not an American patriot is mud slinging at its worst. For Hillary to allow comments regarding Obama’s Christianity is uncalled for in this campaign. For Hillary to insinuate that McCain would be a better Commander-in-Chief than Obama is just ludicrous. My decision, because of all he has achieved, is to cast my ballot for the best candidate for change, Barak Obama!! Others may vote differently, wrongly, but I can’t stop that. The main thing is vote so the Republicans don’t snatch victory from certain defeat!!
I have nothing against baseball players, but do feel the use of steroids and performance-enhancing products should not be condoned. Men who earned them, not juiced for them, set the old records. Who knows what the home run record would be if players of old had used steroids. I have more against members of Congress. I feel they are all in somebody’s pocket. Until we return campaigns to public funding, and restore equal time laws for the broadcast community, we are subject to the whims of networks. Today it is Dennis Kucinich who is being sacrificed upon the altar of media extinction. They ignore him. They don’t want him in their debates. They fear him, because he is in nobody’s pocket. Heck, you just can’t trust an honest man. He might just mess things up for everyone. Tomorrow it can be another candidate. The broad, unprincipled application of power knows no fear, other than that of losing advertising dollars. The public has tools such as boycotts to use to punish those who attempt to control us, but the public is not as organized as is large corporations. Try getting word out, other than the Internet, on a boycott, and you will begin to understand the frustration of candidates not in the inner circle. So, if baseball can be investigated, why can’t Congress, the Executive branch, et al? Maybe the money is just too big. However that money is our money, not theirs. We must have better representation, and we must show who is boss. It is we, the people, if we choose to use our voting power, rather than allowing division for minor reasons, and corporate meddling in the election process. Wake up before it is too late. Cast your ballots and fire some people, even if they are in the middle of investigating baseball!!
The election in New Hampshire will be held tomorrow. While it is important, there are other things of perhaps more import taking place. We get carried away sometimes with the importance of our politics and overlook some of the big stuff. Today we will watch John Edwards as he shares with us his dream for America. His dream best coincides with mine so I enjoy his passionate and sincere recollections of growing up on the wrong side of the tracks. I like him. We will marvel at the quick mind and facile answers of Obama. He seems very likable, humorous, and capable. The capable part hasn’t been tested, and that concerns me. The next President is going to inherit a real mess when it comes to the Executive Department. Can a rookie handle it? I don’t know. We will watch Hillary, the doe caught in the headlights, as she keeps talking of her wealth of experience. I just didn’t like a lot of what she did. I question her ties to the big bucks boys, and would probably rather see someone else monitoring our return to normalcy. BUT, let’s not forget that Ohio State and LSU battle for the National title tonight. Let the politicians slog through the mud, sleet, and snow, whatever. Grab a long neck and join me on the couch. There will be elections no matter what. That’s just the way it is. A smart politician would be in the stadium tonight conducting interviews in the warmth, but that assumes there are smart politicians. The past seven years have caused great doubt in the minds of the public!! New Hampshire, Here We Come!! It is almost a tribute to the Clinton machine that they stayed afloat. Hilary is closely tied to big money, and questionable campaign contributions. Credit must be given to Obama. I thought John Edwards would win. He best represents the present demands of the voters. Obama is very charismatic and reached the young voters. Young voters are going to be big players on Election Day. The Republican side has zero candidates that I would like to see follow GW to the treasury trough. They are just not in touch with the working, or even the middle class. If we had outsourced all Republicans seven years ago we would be TRILLIONS of dollars ahead. People were sold a bill of goods. They were convinced terrorists lurked behind every tree, and that only Repubs could save them. Show me where we have received any value for the TRILLIONS wasted by this bunch. They have failed America so badly it brings tears to my eyes when I think of it. Halliburton did real well. Blackwater did real well. Katrina victims, not so good. It really is whom you know with this administration. They should resign in shame, but will have to driven from office instead. We’ll watch New Hampshire and see if politics of change continues. If it does, God bless the Repubs. They are all going to be unemployed!!
The time draws near for the election process. Assuming voting machines are not rigged - a very real possibility - the American public will be voting in what is the most important election in our history. We MUST choose wisely. There may be many candidates that CAN do the job. I have only seen two that I would WANT to do the job. They are John Edwards and Dennis Kucinich. They are not tied to the corporate controls as others are. Obama is untested. That doesn’t make him bad…just not ready. Hilary seems to be tied to the money. I wouldn’t mind being tied to the money, but I believe my decisions would be slanted. There are zero Republicans who should have access to our treasury anymore. Let us recoup some of the BILLIONS that have disappeared before they get another shot at us. Many say that the Democrats have no programs or ideas. Believe me, if they even start to restore our freedoms and rights, they will have earned their pay. Many sitting Democrats should not be reelected. They failed the public trust. Nancy Pelosi declaring impeachment off the table was not the will of the electorate. So, choose wisely. Don’t reelect anyone. Start anew with those of a populist viewpoint. If not, America, as we have known her, can survive no more!!
December 17, 2007 will long be a day remembered because of the birth of my Granddaughter. I know other people have Granddaughters, but none so pretty, charming, or intelligent. She lights up the room. As I gazed upon her countenance a scary thought crossed my mind. What kind of world awaited her? Would she be able to receive a quality education in the public school system of America? Not very likely!! Healthcare is an issue. Will America do something about its residents? Not very likely!! We are too busy blowing our money on the spreading of Democracy throughout an uncaring world. After preparing herself for a career, would there be one in America? Not very likely!! We are too busy hiring sweatshop and child labor from countries currently less fortunate than America. Do I want her to grow up in the Neo-Con version of America? This is the one with eroded rights and no middle class. Would I prefer the days of old, the fifties, when we were all happy? Probably so. How best to achieve that is to NEVER, EVER, vote for another Republican so long as I live!! They are bottom line feeders upon the working class. They can’t help it, that’s just what they are. But my Granddaughter Julia and I do not need or want them. Get active people, or face the same thoughts I faced yesterday. It’s a real eye-opener!!
Women don’t have the guts to kill a rat, and I can prove it!! Nancy Pelosi has, against the wishes of her countrymen, done nothing to impeach Bush/Cheney. Why does this softhearted female think Democrats gained so many seats in the last election? Failure to act upon the mandate of the people may send some Democrats packing in 2008. There is little or no doubt that Republicans will lose seats, but Democrats need to quit assuming they are safe if they follow more of the same path. Americans demand change!! They want a true return to the values that made America unique in the world. Nothing less will do, no matter how many faces change in D.C. None will be allowed to continue the game as now played. It doesn’t require a third party, just one that looks and listens. We know that won’t be the Republican Party. How many Democrats does it take to change course? We will just keep sending new ones until we get it right. My best advice to newly elected Democrats; lease your dwelling. Don’t plan on being there if you don’t do a better job than some of the old-timers. If they don’t do a better job second-term elected could well become the new old-timers. Americans are truly going to insist upon accountability. Just being on committees won’t save you now. Your actions, or lack of them, ala Pelosi is what will count in the future.
Crazed as a Rabid Fox!! President Bush has been called “crazy like a fox." I have never understood that expression, but would question it none the less, as regards President Bush. He is crazed as a rabid fox!! Let’s review recent American history to see if long-term history will be kind to our President. I sincerely doubt it. However there are many who still believe in this fox. The events of 9-11 defy scientific evidence. They also defy common sense. If we could name all the perpetrators so quickly, it would be the first time in history for us to do so. If we could name the mastermind, and fly his relatives out of the country, why could we not have prevented 9-11? Allegedly intelligence was available, and passed to the administration, far enough in advance to do something other than read a children’s book. Iraq had no WMD, a fact divulged by U.N. inspectors prior to our “shock and awe” munitions manufacturer-enriching exhibition of power. Iraq had zero to do with the events of 9-11. We didn’t even name them as involved until the Neo-Cons wanted to invade. This administration has constantly appointed ill prepared people to important positions. Brownie did not really do a good job following Hurricane Katrina. A trucking official is ill prepared to advise on global warming. Generals and CIA heads have rolled constantly throughout this administration's tenure. It appears that if you speak, either the truth, or something else those at the top don’t want to hear, you are replaced. The replacement is usually a parrot for whatever lies the administration has going at the moment. Stem cell research was slowed considerably by the President’s view on abortion. This despite the fact that only embryos due to be discarded were to be used. The years lost in research may have cost more lives than the war in Iraq, but who’s counting. PR efforts have been used to “spin” events throughout this administration's regime. They have flat lied about occurrences in Iraq to cause Americans to feel good about this invasion of an innocent land. Paid broadcasters have been used to present fiction as fact. They recite their lines as if is is news, not scripted BS. Even now, as the clock winds down on this bunch of liars, they choose to belittle the efforts of our own intelligence community. Iran is NOT attempting to manufacture nuclear weapons. If the President, and his hand-picked staff of accomplices, choose not to listen to intelligence, why do we fund their efforts? We could outsource it to the Kremlin and it would probably be more heeded by King George!! As you can see I think history, even current events, paint this administration as buffoons with a mission. They have spent more money on cronyism than anyone ever before them. For some reason they have been allowed to serve without imprisonment or impeachment. History is going to have to tell me why, for I surely don’t understand it!! Isn’t it Strange that Management is
Never Outsourced? There is zero doubt in my mind that large campaign contributors, most of them corporations, own both sides of the aisle in our existing political structure. They throw money at both sides hoping one of their horses wins. In which case, said horse is beholden to said large contributor. This is awful for the American working, and middle class. As they consolidate cash into fewer pockets, power grows at a larger rate than expenditures. They have even expanded it to war by allowing no-bid cost plus contracts. It is believed that thirty percent of the people will soon control the remainder. That, my friends, is when it’s doing to get tough. Those in power have shown they care little for country or countrymen. The bottom line, and what it means to them, is all that matters. A review of American history will be an eye opener. In the early 1900’s American workers unionized and sought the living conditions to which they were always entitled. They demanded and received an honest wage. They demanded and received an assurance that child labor would cease. Yes, even America had sweatshops in which women and children toiled for long hours at piecework wages that were too low to support a family. Unions and workers brought about a needed and appropriate change for the country. The country thrived. American products were the best. They were prized and desired all over the world. Americans were known worldwide for their fairness. Through it all the evil plotted to return to the old ways. They were wise enough to buy politicians. They figured to change laws in order to revert to where we are today. They won!! Today they sell products made in sweatshops. They are made by human beings earning as little as seventeen CENTS per hour. They are made in countries where human rights do not exist. American corporations, and bought politicians, call it “outsourcing." Isn’t it strange that management is never outsourced? Surely, in other countries there exist people talented enough to ruin America for fewer dollars than existing management. What has been allowed to happen in America is a shame and a travesty. Our forefathers who fought for equal rights and wages are surely spinning in their graves. 2008 is a fine year to fire many of those holding and abusing public office. If I could write the book there would be no incumbents returned to pillage and plunder from the electorate. We would send new faces to Washington, D.C. and watch them closely. Lobbyists would be jailed for twenty years minimum, for bribery. Politicians would not make up their own ethics committee. That would become a function of outside observers. Maybe it’s just a dream, but I really want American youth to enjoy being American as much as I have. I don’t see it happening in today’s atmosphere. Wake up, educate yourselves and vote. A vote really is too precious to waste!! President Bush has asked that funding for the Iraq war be accomplished with no strings attached. Failure to do so implies that Democrats don’t support the troops. Bah!! This President has so messed up everything he has touched that rope, not strings, should be attached. The Neo-Cons, with their war-like behavior, have literally looted the U.S. Treasury. Halliburton, and their ilk, have more money than we do. Mercenaries, who appear to maim and kill with no conscience, are paid double and triple what a soldier receives. Where is the support for the troops in that? Troops have been sent into combat situations in ill prepared Humvees, and no body armor. I really fail to see support for the troops in that debacle. Military have suffered in miserably run military hospitals when wounded. That also seems to lack troop support. Families of killed soldiers have been asked to pay back signing bonuses because the deceased didn’t fulfill their commitment. That is purely mean behavior. Funding has never been withheld from Halliburton, even when fraud is alleged. Blackwater employees were given immunity from prosecution. No wonder they kill and maim with no restraint. If Democrats in office waver or negotiate on their previous decision to withhold funding until a later date they should be voted from office. A proper punishment would be to rope them all into a bunch with G.W. and make them listen to him for a few years. President Bush stated that Americans WANTED funding for the war uninterrupted. Seventy eight percent want an end to the war. That, for the President who can’t count, but can lie, constitutes a real majority. That, Mr. President, is, in fact, a real mandate. Democrats, stand firm. If you can’t, you might have to seek gainful employment, and most companies today run character checks. You might never be hired. Do what you were elected to do, which is the right thing to do!!
The Archbishop of Canterbury has remarked that America no longer takes the high road. Sadly, I agree. America collectively appears to have no conscience. This erosion of morals and values was caused by the Neo-Con element now in power. Prior to the invasion of Iraq, based on a web of deceit worthy a Tom Clancy novel, they had laws changed to protect from future punishment. They dropped out of treaties and organizations that would have been able to hold them culpable. They have since embarked on courses of action designed to divide the country, assuming the old “Divide and Conquer” theory was correct. They have given a face to the enemy. They appear to be Muslims intent on doing away with America and Christianity. This use of religion is so blatantly against the teachings of God that I wonder He hasn’t smote them where they stood. Instead religious leaders have been seduced into endorsing the actions of those leading the administration. The Republican Party has become their false idol. Some churches have even removed from their rolls those who opposed the war. That smacks of the work of the Devil to me, surely not Godlike. America and Americans deserve to have only moral leadership. Instead we have a President who has alluded to having two-way conversations with God. There is nothing new in hearing voices that no one else hears. Heck, the Son of Sam killer heard direction from his dog. Joan of Arc, burned at the stake, was directed by voices also. Lots of alcoholics hear from God on a regular basis. They just don’t get to occupy the oval office. They don’t have access to the power of the mightiest military in the world. Who is to be held accountable for the desertion of morality expected from America? Americans, that’s who. We all have allowed our votes to go unused. Voter turnout is dismal. Apathy reigns. If you, like me, would like to see a return to the high standards of those who preceded us we must encourage everyone to vote. Votes must have a paper trail. Parties must become secondary to the needs of the country. Work together to cause Americans to vote in November of 2008. Help them remember the land of our forefathers. If we don’t, then truly - cabbages can become Kings.
I have spent a few days reviewing the situation in Iraq. I just can’t call it a war because the enemy has no command center, no known communications center, no Army, Navy, or Air Force. In short they have nothing with which to oppose our troops. Yet, oppose us they do, daily. They continue to kill alliance forces, mostly American with all the skill they can muster. Russia was basically defeated by Afghanistan. Are we to suffer the same fate? We have the Pentagon full of military geniuses that wish no oversight. We have an Army, stretched thin as can be stretched. We have a Navy equipped as no other Navy in the world, except, maybe China. We have an Air Force full of skilled pilots flying latest technology aircraft. We, it seems, have everything we need to succeed. We have a Commander-in-Chief. We have a defense department, including cabinet level Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. We have a Vice President viewed by the world as a warmonger. We have it all. Why, then, are so many Americans being killed and maimed? Why, then, are we NINE TRILLION in debt? Why, then, when sixty-eight percent of Americans want an end to the war, are we even there? In fact, the same idiots that put us there are now rattling sabers at Iran. That situation looks like two nutcases double-daring each other. They have no fear. They won’t be there. No, sons and daughters of both countries will die to appease the stupidity of the national leaders. We are hearing our side build yet another WMD scenario, just like the one in Iraq. None were found after we shocked and awed Baghdad into oblivion. Just more political BS in order to empty the treasury and reward campaign contributors. The Democrats have finally taken a stand, way too late, but nonetheless, a stand. They have finally not rubber stamped a request for more funds. I wonder, did they tire of being pushed around, or did they realize November’s election could send them home? After all, sixty-eight per cent want the war to cease. I bet a far larger number don’t want us to bring Iran into the conflict. So, The Pentagon is threatening to lay off two hundred thousand civilians, close all Army bases, followed by Marine bases in order to continue the war. O.K., that is their choice. We all have to make choices on how to budget too few funds. In my case, it is often over priced prescription drugs, or car insurance, or food, or utility bills. I guess I just don’t care that the warmongers and Pentagon have problems. I have enough of my own and I don’t see them sending me money!! I have no children at risk in Iraq and am thankful. Parents of soldiers are expected to put on a brave front, but sixty-eight percent has to include many who truly want their children home. Quoting that infamous idiot, George W. Bush, I would say to the Democrats, “Stay the course!!!” Failure to do so could mean removal from office in November. Some of you might even have to seek gainful employment in a country in which most jobs have been outsourced. That, however, is for another day. Just remember, “Stay the course!!" If it’s good enough for W, it’s plenty good enough for us!!
At times I wonder what is wrong with those that have that they think those who do not have should not have. The world is full of these people. They control in many ways the lives of those under their influence. As an example, homelessness should not exist in this country. Hungry children should not be forced to wonder if the day will include food. Millions of Americans should not be without basic health care, unable to even pay for preventative care. This country, under the uncaring existing administration, has spent enough money in the war against terror to solve the problems detailed in the previous paragraph. We are a nation that is nine trillion dollars in debt. Our great-grandchildren will still be paying for the excesses of this administration. They have caused more harm to America than any enemy ever did. I am called a liberal, yet I am not in all ways. I am compassionate for the working class, the poor, etc. This compassion does not seem to exist in the souls of conservatives. I could not be a conservative because of conscience. I would feel badly if the working class and poor were further enslaved. Conservatives do not! It really is time through the power of the vote for the working class, the poor, those racially discriminated against, to unite and elect someone with a liberal bent. Maybe it is a candidate now running, maybe a candidate yet to proclaim, or someone virtually drafted to run. The candidates from whom we have to choose all look like more of the same to me. I hope I am wrong. Kucinich appears to be the most idealistic candidate. I believe he truly cares for the rights and needs of the people. He is written off as unelectable because big money shuns him. Possibly we need someone not bought and paid for in the Oval Office. God knows we don’t have it now, and have not had for years. Dobbs is sounding good lately. I don’t know enough about him to be able to pass on any insight, but I intend to learn. Everyone should look beyond the promises, which are likely just words, to the soul of the man. Cast your votes accordingly. This country deserves unity. This country deserves respect. This country needs to say, “We do not torture prisoners” and not have the world feel differently. The conservatives talk values, but don’t deliver. Liberals sometimes promise too much, but at least the promises are not as bad as the chants of the conservative warmongers. People, look around you. Use your minds. Vote for somebody. Low voter turnout makes it possible for elections to be manipulated. Insist on paper trails when balloting. Send the conservative mindset home for a while and let’s see if things improve. This election truly well is our last hurrah. Does Spying on Public Exceed Wiretapping? I have reason to fear that our government may have a way to spy on us. This would be visual, not just the illegal wiretapping to which they admit. It is starting to bother me because I suspect they are selling very private information to Internet hustlers. I have recently been barraged with sellers eager to sell me pills, potions, lotions, or incantations to increase my penis size. Many days fully half of all e-mails I receive are directed toward this issue. How do they know? Like all men I have always maintained that size was not an issue. I think we all add three or four inches when pressed to give an answer. I hid in the gym shower. I lied, at all times. I took apparent pride in my manhood, so how do they know? Wiretapping, I fear, is not the least intrusive practice by the government. I think our homes, even our bathrooms, may be wired with tiny web cams. Whether done for the pleasure of Cheney-Bush, who are sneaky souls, or national Intel, this is wrong. I will continue to stick to my size is not an issue story until I am shown a videotape of me in the shower. There could be other explanations, like someone cracked under torture and gave my name. Everyone knows Intel gleaned this way is extremely questionable. Anyway, that seems farfetched. President Bush has said, “We do not torture detainees.” I didn’t believe him then and the size issue lends credibility to the fact he lies. I swear my WMD is bigger than Saddam’s. Oh,well, only time will tell. Republicans had no problem with the political ads belittling Sen.’s Kerry and Cleland. But oh my, how quickly they whine when it is one of theirs under fire. MoveOn.Org ran an ad questioning whether the Petraeus report could be treated as anything less than self-serving, especially when it was rewritten and issued under the auspices of the White House. Somehow the White House has taken this ad to be a full-blown attack against the military. The Swift Boat ads were more divisive and appeared to be less than truthful. Where were the beacons of fair play, gag me, Bush and the boys then? President Bush has already caused a fine soldier to feel less than perfect about not speaking his mind. I refer to the lies uttered by Colin Powell before the U.N. when Bush was selling his little war. If Colin Powell may be suspect, why not General Petraeus? Ambition can make an honest man find justification for many things he might not normally say or do. Move On. Org, and all other Americans, would be well advised to question anything from this administration. As women say about men, “If his lips are moving, he’s lying” should be the key when Bush and his bunch speak. Go back and count the lies. There are so many that you just can’t remember them all. If Bush was Pinocchio he would be at the White House and the tip of his nose would be somewhere in Montana. Question away. It is our right, maybe even an obligation. Hurrah, Move On.Org, low-life left-wing seeker of the truth!!
Every now and then I awake to thoughts of the Dixie Chicks and the extraordinary courage shown by them in expressing their discomfort with President Bush. On a stage overseas they apologized for the fact that Bush shared their beloved Texas as a home state. Immediately radio stations removed them from their play lists. The economic loss was extreme. Did the demure Dixie Chicks back down? Hell, no!!. They simply continued to make music, attempt to continue what had been a huge career. Alas, shows were cancelled. Music sales plummeted. The Dixie Chicks slightly shifted their focus, edging just a wee bit out of country music to pop. They made a living. They never bowed to pressure. In their mind, they were right, and the all-hat, no-cattle cowboy from Crawford was wrong. There was no middle ground. Through all of this one sensed that the lead singer had spoken her mind, with or without prior discussion with the other Chicks. They never wavered. They supported her all the way. Today my mind conjured up a meeting that never happened in the Oval Office. President Bush asked Miss Marnes there to see if see was yet ready to apologize, or in any other way kiss his butt. Far from it, she said. Instead she unveiled their newest song," Not Ready to Make Nice, Yet", and played it for the dufus from Crawford. That song went on to win gold status and was honored by a music profession that really knew they had been wrong in the past. When the song ended, Miss Marnes looked at President Bush and said, "You need say nothing, for little Texas girls are taught early in life to detect BS. In your case, it's true, if your lips are moving, you’re lying." With that, in a graceful manner, she departed the Oval office. The only set of balls in the room left when she did...and they were bigguns. I said it before, and I’ll say it again…"God, Bless the Dixie Chicks!"
Having accomplished our mission in Iraq, it is time to carry the true meaning of Democracy to other countries. My guess is that our next conquest will be Iran. The Iranians, like the Iraqi’s, will soon have an opportunity to throw rose petals at our feet. Like Iraq, Iran has sufficient oil income to pay for our bringing Democracy to them without stretching our budget. That sure has been beneficial in Iraq, hasn’t it? President Bush doesn’t read the same press releases I do. He is saying we need another two hundred billion dollars or so for the Iraq war. He is saying we can’t fund health care for American children at a cost figure only seven billion greater than anticipated. Well, those are separate issues. We have succeeded in Iraq, and it is time to move on to other fronts in the war on terror. I have concluded that the war on terror will be global, seemingly fought in oil producing countries, and a total failure. I am trying to pick our next invasion point. Will it be Syria? Lebanon? Michigan? After all, with new-found spying authority the President can go wherever he believes necessary. It doesn’t require reason, logic, facts, just a desire to press on in the cause of Democracy. We Americans are quickly losing our freedoms and rights. We may well become the next front. Makes a lot of sense when you think about it. The savings in logistics would drive Halliburton and Blackwater over the top. Profits would be so high. After all, its not doing the work, just getting the contract. Beware, Iran. We won’t have a lot of time to set you on the correct path. You will have to follow the proven stabilization techniques we have employed in Iraq. Instructions to follow. Next stop, Detroit. After that we could head to New Orleans and undo ALL the rebuilding done there. Shouldn’t take more than a day or two. Damn, this global war on terror stuff can be fun!!
I have a new problem with President Bush’s war thingy in Iraq. First, it is not a war. It is an occupation. A war requires an enemy force. The opposition we are “fighting” has no Army, Navy, Air Force, Central Command Post, or specific chain of command. We are fighting a few smart terrorists who recruit Iraqi patriots to expel the infidel invader. Early we had military leaders who bragged we could not lose because OURS was the true God. Blow that up on an Al Qaeda recruitment poster and see how many enlist. We rave that we are fighting them there so we don’t need to fight them here. Absolute bull fodder, created by a public relations guy. Remember the part about no Army, Air Force, or Navy. That is still true. Unless we sell them tickets on commercial aircraft or ships, they just can’t get here. Sure, a few can walk in through Canada or Mexico because Homeland Security sucks. We spend $500,000 a second to fight smoke in Baghdad. If we brought our troops home we could use a pittance of that to seal our borders, which should have been done long ago. Now I learn we are paying Johnny Commando types to escort diplomats and guests in the Green Zone. Earnings in excess of a hundred thousand dollars per annum per mercenary are reported. Risk is minimal compared to our sons and daughters serving in the hot spots for peanuts. Why don’t we reverse roles? Let Johnny Commando really earn his greenbacks. Let our kids roar through Baghdad in armored Humvees. Basically, Bush and his war is a figment draining taxpayer dollars to a few cronies. Impeach or imprison those who created this monster!! 2008 is drawing near!!
You may find early in this article that I don’t have a very good opinion of President Bush, or the Nazi-like Neo-cons who blindly exhort his praises. This highly principled jerk has harmed America more than all her previous enemies combined, and he has no intention of stopping in his remaining time in office. He is simply a cold-hearted advocate for the wealthy. Yesterday he attempted to show an example of his fiscal reserve. He promised to veto a bill that would give more American children health care. The bill would be thirty five billion more over seven years than a plan he supports. His plan is woefully inadequate, but he doesn’t care. The kids involved are not those of his family or their cronies. They, after all, have health care. Days ago this jerk asked for an additional fifty billion dollars before years end to continue his FAILED war on terror. He doesn’t mind stepping to the pump to support the military-industrial contributors to the GOP, but screw the children of America’s middle class and below. Now, I have a limited education, but if seven billion a year is unsupportable, how do we support the fifty billion? And, it won’t stop there. This idiot, cocky cowboy that he is, will want more every two or three months. If we can’t fund America, why fund Iraq? According to the liars in office they are our enemies. They were buddies with Osama, attacked the twin towers, had weapons of mass destruction pointed at our heads, thirty minutes from impact. Additionally, President Bush wanted to show his Daddy how. As of today it is highly possible that every man, woman, and child could have been issued checks for close to a million dollars each. That is about what we have spent on the war[?]effort, a ridiculous Homeland Security Department, and judicial costs to strip us of our freedoms. If I had my million dollars I could pay the price the drug companies demand for their prescriptions, another Bush boondoggle, I might add. So, if you are a Bush fan, kiss my grits!! You are an idiot, or a thief. Those are all that support Georgie. Continue to fund enemies, kill soldiers, wage wars, but, for God’s sake, don’t fund American children. It’s probably not necessary. You will just send the survivors to Iraq in another ten years. You guys make me sick!! May the Lord have no mercy upon your sorry souls!!
Osama Bin Laden has finally made the move that I have been expecting. President Bush has been snookered again, but, hey, that isn’t hard to do. Bush, having rallied his Republican sheep behind him, and having committed a trillion dollars or more to the ongoing war in Iraq, may soon be fighting air. I have always said that a permanent ground force is not the way to fight terrorists. Once they have you positioned, they can move. We have already bemoaned the fact that getting our troops out of Iraq will be difficult and costly. Mention has been made of increased risk to the troops, as if leaving them there is safe. Bush is even considering war or invasion or provocation of Iran. Iran has a real fighting force, not just rag-tag volunteers against the occupying U.S. forces. I guess the theory, in this delusional President’s mind, is if you can’t win one war, start more. Just the kind of leader I want - not. Osama, having watched Bush and his idiots commit to Iraq, now infers that Pakistan will be their next battleground. Many there seem loyal to Al Qaeda now. We have offered millions and millions of dollars for information leading to the capture of Osama. No one has made an effort to claim it. The bad thing is if we react to Pakistan the convoy of camels and volunteers only has to return to Iraq, or go into yet another country. We can’t continue to multiply our troops, even with a draft. Al Qaeda doesn’t need to multiply, just move. The cost of logistics, coupled with the military-industrial profits, coupled with pay to mercenaries will soon cause even China to tire of supporting, with dollars, the idiots in charge. I am sure China will support them publicly, lending encouragement all the way. China, uninvolved in battle, will be the real winner when our economy finally nose-dives. Impeachment or imprisonment is what we need. The scorn demonstrated by Bush and his cronies toward efforts to slow him is unfathomable. Arrest them and let the process of healing begin.
I, like President Bush, am a macho man from Texas. We don’t even know from what part of a cow quiche is derived, but REAL MEN, like George and I, don’t eat quiche. We rule the roost. We, real men, don’t make mistakes!! We don’t ask directions. We don’t need a bunch of wusses telling us how to wage war, either. We have Dick Cheney, five-time deferment winner in the Viet Nam era, for that. Recently I attended a small dinner party in Dallas, Texas. I left Dallas Sunday morning for the leisurely drive to Houston, TX, home of real men. My wife, just as I am sure Laura does George, tried to do some back seat driving. Like George, for we are real men, I told her to just keep quiet, any idiot can drive from Dallas to Houston. You don’t even change highways, for God’s sake. Today it is Wednesday and my wife and I are in Paducah, KY. She hasn’t spoke to me for quite some time, days actually. I, like all real men, still have not asked for directions, and I absolutely refuse to do so. I suppose it would be all right for my wife to ask, after all she is not a real man. However, when I subtly hint at this, she just mutely stares at me. I am thinking the honeymoon is over. A woman, and you can check Tammy Wynette on this, is supposed to stand by her man. My woman keeps trying to get me out of the car. I don’t trust her anymore. Sometimes the responsibility of being a real man, or a President, seems an impossible task. I did call Dick Cheney on that cell phone thingy, but he was laughing so hard I couldn’t understand a word he was saying. Oh, well, full speed ahead, that’s the way to run a country!!
It appears that Democrats who were elected in overwhelming numbers in 2006 do not understand why. Their mission was to impeach President Bush, and/or Vice President Cheney. Sure, there are other areas of concern, which they can attack, appearing to look busy while knowing that without completion of Job 1, nothing else stands a chance of passage. President Bush seems to view our elected officials as minor obstructions in his way to creating WWlll. He literally ignores them and chides them as having no authority over the Executive Branch, or anyone shielded by the Executive Branch. This would include former staffers who have been ordered by the DECIDER to ignore congressional subpoenas. As long as this standoff exists nothing can be done. We blather and bleat about Iraq, while the DECIDER is deciding where to attack next. Iraq, to the DECIDER, is a done deal. Congress can do nothing. We are concerned about global warming. The DECIDER is trying to open more land up to practices that will have a deleterious effect upon the environment. To the DECIDER global warming is a done deal. Congress can do nothing. We deride other countries for their lack of regard regarding social issues, but that is no problem for the DECIDER. If we want to get nasty about outsourcing, human rights issues, child labor, and the like the DECIDER will deflect such criticism by opening up our borders to Mexican trucks. To the DECIDER, everything is a done deal. Congress can do nothing. The actions of this Congress cause me to believe the DECIDER has their number. He just keeps on doing whatever he decides, daring someone to stand in his way. Is it that both parties are firmly glued to the corporate teat, or is it that politicians of both parties feel the electorate lacks the spine necessary to unite and take back government from the scum now in place? We have United States Border patrolmen languishing in prisons, even as drugs flow freely into our country through Mexico. We are totally unable to resolve health care issues, pharmaceutical excessive profits, immigration, when to pull back from the civil war in Iraq, or anything else. We will have to impeach the DECIDER in order to move on. He has decided none has the courage to do it. 2008 may see election revolts that will return many incumbents to the civilian labor pool, where they may find their previous careers are now outsourced. 2008 may see a year when citizens, not bloodsuckers are elected. Sounds good, but I really doubt it. The DECIDER isn’t concerned. Impeach him NOW, or prepare to face a constituency that will not overlook your ineptitude, or cowardice. We don’t need a third party, though it sure wouldn’t hurt. We just need to vote out those who do follow the edicts of the public, for the betterment of all!!
Recent events have forced me to conclude that I am not a nice person. I may be forced to go a step further and conclude I am not a good citizen. I don’t want to self examine much more because I may conclude I am not a good patriot. I always thought I was because I have loved America all my life. I bought into all that stuff about freedom, equality, and equal rights. I believed soldiers were heroes. I still do. However my country changed while I was asleep. We no longer feel treating humans inhumanely is a bad thing. I do. We no longer have all the freedoms afforded under the Constitution. I guess real patriots feel that is o.k. I don’t. Workers are subjected to treatment from employers that resembles the treatment that went on before laws were changed to protect the workers. The majority of Americans must agree for it is the law of the land. I don’t. We have gone through a period where judges were fired if they wouldn’t behave in a manner inconsistent with the Constitution, and replaced by power hungry yes-men. None was punished so I guess the majority rules and agrees. I don’t. I grew up in an era where the sons and daughters of the working class were entitled to an education that made them eligible for a productive life. A lot of the soldiers I considered heroes died for that right. I guess today they feel differently because our education system is pathetic. Once again, the majority must agree. I don’t. Every American should have available to them health insurance. Children should be covered most of all to catch potential life threatening problems early and treat them. That just isn’t happening. I guess the majority agrees. I don’t. Drug companies are making profits that are unconscionable. Their returns may be higher than those risking imprisonment for dealing in illegal drugs. I guess everyone thinks this is fine. I don’t. I believe supporting the troops is similar to saving the troops. I don’t believe we should be involved in civil wars, other than for humanitarian purposes, and with the involvement of other countries. This involvement should not include sending more troops as targets, or choosing sides. If that were a good policy we would still be involved in the conflict between North and South Korea. That is so similar to what is occurring in Iraq, yet we are not there, I suppose the great majority agrees with the ongoing policy in Iraq. I don’t. I always believed politicians should be men of honor working for the common good of their constituents. Now, its just “Follow the money." The pork barrel reigns supreme. Earmarking is almost like stealing, I think. I guess the majority think I am wrong and naïve. I don’t. I suppose now you can see why I am questioning my value system. I really believe we have enough at home to contend with without looking worldwide for places to invade. I guess the majority would prefer the status quo. If that is so, I am just not the patriot I thought I was.
Alex, the genius parrot, has died at the age of thirty-one. I am far more saddened that I thought I would be. I never met Alex. I never saw Alex, except on television. Alex, like a pet rock, appeared to be smarter than President Bush. He could speak English, properly. I am willing to bet that Alex would have always known what country he was gracing with his presence. President Bush recently failed that in a public speech. Alex was even smart enough to not buy a ranch in Crawford, Texas and pretend to be a cowboy. That isn’t a slam at Crawford or its residents, save one. President Bush may or may not be able to count. Alex could. President Bush may or may not be able to differentiate between shapes. Alex could. President bush may or may not be able to recognize one color from another. Alex could. We will never know for sure about President Bush because it would require him to intelligently communicate. He has failed to do that throughout his entire life. However, Alex could. When you watched Alex on TV you quickly forgot he was a parrot. He was so smart and sounded so human-like. When one sees President Bush on TV, one quickly realizes he is a parrot. He just attempts to mouth the words of Karl Rove or Dick Cheney, or the corporate favorite of the moment. That favorite changed rapidly as others donate more, thus placing them in the catbird seat. I was planning to approach Alex and ask him to run for President as a third party candidate. He would have shown better sense than nearly anyone else campaigning. I fear this may have led to the demise of Alex. We will need a full investigation in order to see if black helicopters played a part in the death of Alex. We will definitely need alibis from Bush, Cheney, Rove, Gonzales, and virtually any member of the Bush cabinet. They have already evidenced through their actions that killing doesn’t bother them In the meantime America has lost a great parrot. He will be missed forever more. President Bush, when he exits office will never be thought of again, except for the failures of his administration. Bush may even be languishing in a prison, in many different countries, if they can get their hands on him. Farewell, Alex, you were truly one of a kind. You were loved and will be sorely missed. Bush…oh, well!!
Republican hopeful Fred Thompson is a skilled and gifted speaker. I just don’t like what he says. I have decided on my own fairness doctrine where Fred is concerned. If his wife is on stage with him, I will pay the utmost attention. Otherwise Fred, and his tired old conservative crap, may as well hit the mute button himself. I am just not going to listen. In fact, I don’t believe there is a Republican Presidential hopeful that I could endorse. It is amusing, however, when the most conservative candidate, Ron Paul scares the daylights out of the others. Under Ron Paul lobbyists and their bribes might dry up forever. Mr. Paul will be forced to fight Republicans and Democrats alike for the Presidency. Republicans in lockstep with Herr Bush have destroyed our country. Following a party platform conceived by power hungry Hitler fans have all but eradicated our basic rights and freedoms. Karl Rove is gone, but his shameful legacy remains. Alberto Gonzalez is gone, but should be in a holding cell somewhere for something, because whatever it was he approved it as the numero uno lawyer in the land. Dick Cheney is still there, and because of that I have figured a way to reduce if not pay in full our national debt. We should auction on EBAY the right to deal with Cheney as the high bidder desires. Shoot, Bush would probably bid under an assumed name. We could allow groups of people to bid as one in order to garner more money. Iraqis, Iranians, Americans in favor of the Constitution, U.S. Military, Disillusioned Squad, and etc. could battle it out with others to determine the fate of old smiling Dick Cheney. When all was said and done our debt would be greatly reduced, and our country would again be on the right path. I fear that this year the Republicans have no one in the game that is worthy of consideration. Remember, if you found a Republican you liked he is under control of the Party. I guess the days of GOOD citizens serving because it is the right thing to do disappeared when campaign costs went sky high. We must have public financing of elections to stop the corruption now in play. Corporate contributions are simply investments. They really don’t do it because they had an outstanding civics teacher!!
It is finally true. The inmates are running the asylum. Both of our political parties are filled with people who speak the party line gibberish, but don’t observe how it relates to reality. A fine example is the war in Iraq. One side screams surge, surge, and surge. Its working, this surge thing. Shoot, let’s surge some more. The other side says, “Bring 'em home." Some say a few at a time, some say with careful withdrawal plans, some say DO IT NOW!! Lost in the midst of these discussions is the apparent attempt to bomb, or invade, Iran. This, my friends, is the supposed plan from an administration that seems to feel the people and the Congress are secondary to the power of the DECIDER, President George W. Bush. President Bush can’t differentiate between North and the color purple. I don’t want him deciding anything for the people. He is a warmongering, silver spoon, combat-avoiding son of Texas. Ship him to Crawford and let him count stop signs or something. Next, let’s tackle immigration issues. There are many ways to resolve these questions. One side says we need cheap labor to do the work Americans feel is beneath them. I have a problem with that because Americans have always done this work. They just wanted enough to feed their families and educate their children. The other side says we can’t afford them. Health care issues alone would bankrupt the country. We have spent so much in Iraq, most of it passed through private contractors with a cost plus fifteen per cent markup, that we could each have our live-at-home physician with on-call specialists. Therefore, that story doesn’t fly either. However, we have funded billions of dollars to build a twelve-foot fence around our borders. This prompted Bill Richardson to say there are going to be a lot of thirteen-foot ladders. The simplest solution is to adapt requirements for entry to match that proffered by bordering countries. What’s good enough for them should be good enough for us, don’t you think? In the meantime the DECIDER and his boys have opened our highways to the entry of Mexican trucking firms. This is just another big, old outsourcing move by Bush and the boys. I am a wee bit fearful of our ability to check all cargo. There just might be room for a few mini-nukes among the lettuce. It really is time to cage the inmates and criminals, elected or appointed. America needs more Mark Twains and Will Rogers', and zero Bush-Cheneys!! Well, I think in the midst of tight money I’ll just hitch a ride on some of these Mexican trucks. Probably beat any other E ticket ride I have ever enjoyed.
Impeachment has passed its time of utility. Far too many people will die if we wait. Nuclear weapons may even be put into play against Iran. Reports of mini-nukes in San Francisco have residents there living in fear. Some say false-flag; others say terrorists, could be either. The current Bush-Cheney administration has even dispatched a State National Guard unit to protect{?} against attack upon the Capital. The administration has made it possible to arrest citizens upon suspicion, prevent them from legal aid, and hold incarcerated indefinitely. There used to be another country with those provisions, and the enforcing arm was known as the KGB. I never thought, or wanted, to see it in the United States of America. The provisions of protection rendered under the United States Constitution lie shredded at our feet. The group in power is literally scornful of the Constitution. They feel immune against anything. They have used, previously, a yes-man, cowardly Attorney General to rubber stamp atrocities our forefathers NEVER intended as representative of the behavior of Americans. His name, now resigned, was Gonzalez. He was, in fact, the first Hispanic to hold that high office. I fear they cannot be very proud of his actions. However, he does play a tremendous part in my suggestion of a solution. He has held that usable information may be gained by methods just outside the line Americans will cross. He approved that the United States forces could seize suspects from the street, and export them for questioning anywhere in the world. Gonzalez, therefore, would be an excellent referee to oversee question of Bush-Cheney by Iranian intelligence officers. Should they perform an act that Bush-Cheney considered torture, something above heat-cold, sleep deprivation, water boarding, because we say that’s allowed. Suppose, just for grins, the inquisitors decided to skin them alive. I think that is too far. I would question the value of intelligence gleaned from such action. I think most warriors would say anything to prevent that, and I guarantee you Bush-Cheney have zero warrior pride or courage. If they should object, and, oh, you know they will, Gonzalez comes into play. He may rule that, in his opinion, such conduct is acceptable, or undergo five minutes of similar treatment before being allowed to rule. My bet is that Bush-Cheney are going to look like sinew. Further they will admit there never were WMD’s and they knew it. Saddam was not involved with Al-Qaeda, and they knew it. Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, and they knew it. Speaking of 9-11, wonder what the boys would have to say about that if they were subjected to rendition procedures? Do you suppose we would learn why no fighters were scrambled? Do you suppose we could determine why Building 7 collapsed in its own footprint, never having suffered a hit? One thing I know we would learn, Alberto Gonzalez could remember what he said about anything ever, and that he could keep his big mouth shut. Oh, well, probably won’t happen. Just a fantasy. Might have happened in 1776, but probably not today. Fathers of our country today lack the courage of the forefathers!!
There are simply too many conspiracy theories. I remember the first one I heard was that FDR had prior warning of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and did not act on this intelligence. Overwhelming evidence was presented. Next was the JFK assignation, and the Warren Report. Everyone has been named suspect in this that ever drew a breath. Overwhelming evidence has been presented for multiple versions of truth. The juries are still out. RFK and MLK followed into Conspiracy Hall. Mafia, CIA and others are still suspected of involvement. Overwhelming evidence has, again, been presented for multiple versions. The juries are still out. I left out the Marilyn Monroe suicide. Many feel RFK had a hand in that one. Overwhelming evidence has been presented for several scenarios. Then we have the events of 9-11. Far too many people question the facts as presented. I have several questions. I know how quickly planes can be scrambled if a threat appears imminent. It didn’t happen on 9-11. I just am unconvinced planes hitting, and the subsequent fires, can bring buildings down in their footprint. Another building, untouched, also collapsed in its footprint, just from proximity. I really don’t think so. Far too many unanswered questions remain, the first of which is that we had an official version of reality in place far too quickly. Decades of watching other events unfold have shown our government is way too slow to move so quickly. The resulting changes in our laws have shredded Democracy, as we knew it. We don’t subscribe to the Geneva Conventions anymore. Habeas Corpus is no longer a part of our judicial process. We have an administration that has usurped power in a never-before, never-intended manner. We have so few rights remaining, and most of us don’t even seem to notice. “Follow the money” seems to point directly to involvement by members of our government. Actions after 9-11 only act to confirm such an outlandish statement. Now we are headed into the JFK, Jr. conspiracy. Supposedly he was killed to prevent him from naming those who killed his father. George Bush, Sr. was prominently involved, so says this new conspiracy. Again, I am inclined to believe it. My research has led me to conclude that an overthrow of our Democracy has been in play for decades. Baby steps have been used to achieve the goals of the elite and powerful of today. I believe there is some substance in all the above conspiracy theories. I am most inclined to believe that 9-11 was carried out with knowledge and personnel from within the current administration. Naturally, I cannot yet prove a single word of this, but neither could I disprove it. Truth has only one side, deception many.
America has had its heroes. There have been none however that can compete with the results of a fighting machine from Texas. His grave site is the second most visited in Arlington National Cemetery. The most visited is that of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. This young Texan, Audie Murphy by name, all of 5' 5” tall, was awarded every single medal for valor awarded by a grateful America. He was also awarded medals for valor from foreign governments as well. To this day the U.S. Army claims there will never be another Audie Murphy. Audie Murphy did these heroic deeds so that America could remain the “land of the free, home of the brave." He continually risked his life so that those who came after him could continue to receive the benefits afforded by the Constitution of the United States of America. Odds are that he was a Democrat while young, possibly Republican by death. Republicans of the fifties and sixties in American were much unlike those in political power today. I was a Republican for most of my working life. However President George W. Bush, and his hearty band of cutthroats and thieves caused me to revert to my Father’s Democratic policy. He told me through my youth of the harm that would befall America if the wealthy ever regained power. He had lived through the depression. He had fought for unionism. He had fought for equality. I only read about it and it didn’t seem too important as a child of the fifties. We had it pretty good, poor, but good. The group in power in the Republican Party has divided us so completely that all the battles of the past are in our future. We require strong unions in order that workers receive their fair share of the spoils. Outsourcing has allowed companies to build products with seventeen cent per hour labor and sell them in one hundred cent dollars. Americans, while complaining of the effect upon American jobs, stand in line to buy at the cheaper price. We have to because we have families to provide for and good jobs are really scarce. That will not work. We must take a stand and require manufacturers to reopen plants or do without our dollars. Selective boycotts of major chains might do the trick. A friend of mine has a more humane, and probably better solution. Unionize foreign workers. They are working themselves to death, providing their families with rice for foodstuff, and getting zero portions of the benefits of their efforts. Illegal immigrants would disappear over time. Most come here because it is far worse where they live. CEO’s of privileged companies, and hot industries, might have to get by on less than three or four hundred million a year. What can any one individual contribute that should allow them to draw that salary while workers grovel to earn $10.00 an hour. The answer, in my opinion is NOTHING! Sports stars better get it while they can, because if I am in charge, things will change. A family of four should be able to afford to attend games. Hot dogs shouldn’t be priced like filet. If they don’t want to pay for reasonable pay they can take their talent to Japan or some other country that has not yet learned the cost of stardom versus humanity. All of the above to ask this. If Audie Murphy returned, and took up arms against the enemies of America, would he leave the country??
Everyone is seeking an acceptable compromise in Iraq. I have one. Fund the troops; support the troops. Allow the military to do its thing. Do not fund private contractors acting as mercenaries. Do not pay contractors for shoddy work. Do pay contractors until completion and proof of workmanship. An example would be the return of water and power to the citizens. Somehow our new embassy is flawless, built under the same conditions as have caused failure for the public. Cancel contracts of suppliers under repeated suspicion of fraud, Halliburton among them. This is not a war. It is a civil disagreement among the Iraqi people, one that has gone on for centuries. The blood of our young should not be spilled for internal conflicts. If anything, that is a United Nations issue. We have millions of Americans suffering hard times under this callous administration. Let’s see what happens if we stop the theft, and perhaps invest in solving our problems. We have bridges and mines collapsing. We have many uninsured, both children and adults. We have working situations resembling of the days of child labor. We outsource child labor now but does that make it right? See how easy that was? Cut off theft and corruption. Fund the troops. Solve domestic problems. Heck, I may sign up for the next debate. I don’t guess it matters which side; both are wearing rose-colored glasses.
Big money owns America. It matters not whether it is corporate big money or private big money. The use of this money to secure legislation favorable to the holders of the big money is conducted through lobbyists. Lobbyists are very often people who were involved in government through their previous employment and use their former acquaintances as conduits. Their job, and goal, is to secure passage of legislation that will give their special interest group an “edge" against other special interest groups. Whether this legislation is favorable to the people means nothing to these groups. “Let them eat cake” is their attitude. Lobbyists buy votes, pure and simple. They have all learned to do so in ways that may not be illegal. Legality and morality are separate issues. Neither is in disfavor in D.C., just being caught. Even when caught the punishment is far lighter than that dished out to the common folk. A guy with an illegal pound of marijuana may be sentenced to a term exceeding any hope of life expectancy. A guy caught with an illegal ton of money is often fined an amount less than that with which he was caught. That isn’t punishment…it’s a reward. The bottom line to all of this is that lobbyists are blight upon democracy. If they do their jobs well, the people suffer. We pay either financially or through lost rights. Big money gains, little money loses. That is purely wrong. Americans elect government officials with some idea that they will look out for our rights and benefits. Thousands of our forefathers did not spill their blood and give their lives so that big money could rescind the freedom and rights they gained. Our forefathers died so we could hold a democracy. In most cases, big money was absent from the wars. They were at home selling munitions and oil, and all sorts of products at marked up profits. Until we remove lobbyists from D.C., and fire the politicians that accept their largess, we have no chance of becoming the America of old. I, for one, miss that America. It is my feeling that if we could reincarnate WWll veterans, and arm them again; they would march on Washington, D.C. They would recognize our power structure as one unlike the one they died to sustain. They would gladly die again to reincarnate it!! Make it affordable for citizens without wealth, but rich in honor and integrity to run for public office. Make campaign-advertising public service, not a vast profit center requiring big money. Make lobbyism an extinct trade. I suppose there are those who lobby for good causes, clean air, peoples' rights, etc. However, if we remove big money and their special interest causes and return power to little money, we won’t need them either. I wonder why Americans continue to work at all when daily their freedoms and rights are assailed. The bottom line is that big money has a different agenda from most of us. They are trying to grow their wealth, or at least hold on to it. Most of us are trying to buy food, pay bills, and find a way to send our kids to college. In the most part we do not wish to take from the rich and give to the poor. We just want a fair distribution of profits for the breadwinners who slave to stay even. I really doubt there is an executive worth millions of dollars a year and clutching a golden parachute. Ten to one his secretary can do his or her job. Enough from the soapbox on this issue already. However, really examine what you see around you. Are you and your loved ones any better off than before? I don’t think so. Examine big money, are they far, far ahead of times gone by? I think so. Make elections funded by the public, no campaign contribution. Make lobbyists unemployed. Then, and only then, we have a chance to be proud Americans once more!!
As a young man I analyzed the rise to power of Adolph Hitler. His success intrigued me because he had absolutely nothing going for him. I realized the genius behind the physiological moves Hitler and his band of henchmen used and thought, “Thank God, that can never happen here.” Seems to me that it has. A very skillfully crafted, long term plan has given President Bush virtually every power granted to Hitler. He has the ability to grab people off the street at will, detain them, subject them to “humane” torture, and imprison them without access to our legal system. Using highly paid mercenaries to protect civilians in Iraq, and elsewhere, is similar to the troops who were loyal to Hitler rather than the government. Using outside contractors to build detention facilities, or upgrade former U.S. concentration camps allows much to be done under the radar. What the administration has really done is to craft an anonymous threat to Democracy, LIBERALS. I am one. I own weapons but the administration spin is that LIBERALS want gun control. LIBERALS are Godless. I do not attend a church because most of them are full of networkers and hypocrites. The lessons taught by Jesus are twisted to allow control of the mindless sycophants that follow the administration. My Mother was at church every time the doors were open. My Father had served as a Deacon in our little Baptist church until continued hypocrisy wore him down. LIBERALS all want abortion. I don’t think so, just as I don’t think all Republicans truly oppose women’s rights. LIBERALS are Socialists who want to take from the rich and give to the poor. Not necessarily true, but more humane and compassionate by far than the corporate minds of today that have the ear of the administration. Battles were fought and workers killed to achieve workers rights. This administration has taken so much money from corporations that they have HAD to do away with rights our Grandfathers fought to win. The true beauty of having LIBERALS to hold responsible for all our woes is you don’t have to identify them, or segregate them. Hitler only had the Jews. As they diminished, his propaganda machine was running into problems. To seize power, and stay in power, you must have an enemy to unite against. This administration doesn’t have to rant against Democrats. This administration need not single out a race to cleanse. This administration need not rail against women. This administration doesn’t really need terrorists, but that is what loosens the purse strings. Fear of terrorism is making this administration’s cronies disgustingly wealthy, and without a conscience!! I know not which propaganda specialist devised the catch-all phrase, LIBERAL, as an enemy but they were a true genius. They can say anything they wish and not fear retaliation. To reply to their blind attacks would signify one was a LIBERAL, or at best part of a LIBERAL organization. When things are starting to close in on the Oval Office they make a speech accusing LIBERALS as being the scourge of the country. The fat cats follow the leader and parrot the L word, and accountability fades away. I propose we all get bumper stickers proclaiming ourselves to be LIBERAL. There is actually no shame in that. Brand us. We will see far more cars with LIBERAL stickers than one that say FANS of BUSH This Mein Kampf-following administration must go. Impeach or imprison. THEY deserve either. Refer to them as THEY and THEY, like LIBERALS are tarred with the same brush!!
The Taliban is alive and well in Afghanistan. They are kidnapping and killing in greatly increased numbers. Mullah Omar, who fled on a motorcycle, is still alive, and surely laughing at the Bush administration. Daily we are urged to beware increased threats of violence from Al Qaeda. Osama Bin Laden seems to have many more volunteers to wreak havoc on the United States. It wasn’t so very long ago that President Bush claimed to not be concerned with Osama. After all, we had captured or killed twenty five per cent of their leadership. “Bring em on”, he demanded in that cute cowboy way of his. They have, and continue to pose threats to servicemen and women abroad, as well as continued awareness of terrorist danger in America. Yesterday, in attempting to raise support for his ill planned war, President Bush mentioned Al Qaeda ninety-five times in a twenty-nine minute speech. The insurgency is not all Taliban or Al Qaeda. Some are Iraqi citizens who feel we have invaded their country. They fight, just as our citizens would, because they want their lifestyle of centuries to continue. Insurgents in our country did much the same in 1776. We call them forefathers and heroes. We call the Iraqi defenders “terrorists." Go figure!! I just can’t erase the spectacle from my mind of President Bush landing on a flight deck. He preened for the cameras, which he does well. Then so the entire world can look back at his dubious grasp of reality pronounced “Mission Accomplished!” This administration is far more adept at defeating our own Congress than it is at winning any major points in the war on terror. If, as somebody said, we would “follow the money” we might understand this war is being used to make multi-millionaires of those who blindly support President Bush. Weapons companies are thriving. Most of us can barely afford to fuel our vehicles. Mercenaries are earning hundreds of thousands a year in order that the administration have its own troops. They earn in a month what our sons and daughters earn as targets in Iraq in a year. If, by now, you are getting the impression that I think Bush and his henchmen are woefully inadequate to the task, you are correct!! I think impeachment, possibly imprisonment, is long overdue. When the Democrats do what they were elected to do Nancy Pelosi and John Conyers can stand before the White House and pronounce, “Mission accomplished." If they fail in doing that I hope they are voted from office. They have a task to do, and the grinning cowboy makes them look foolish over and over. For all the good they have done I should have just stayed home election day. After all, that’s what the Republicans desire. Go back to paper ballots. Fire the crooks. Hundreds and hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are being stolen in this war on terror. I fear that is why our children are fodder in Iraq!! “Mission accomplished”, my Aunt Fanny. This administration has accomplished no meaningful deeds for Americans, unless you are in line for the spoils. Get this bunch out of office NOW!! No More George Washingtons! I fear I have grown tired of the constant charges leveled against this administration by those who feel truth and honesty in government is important. There are no more George Washingtons with their cherry tree tales. There are in fact very few patriots in office. We now run government like big business. What is good for the oil, drug, telephone, cable, energy, stock market is good for America. If it is not so good, so what? It sure pays well. Just look at the hundreds of millions of dollars these groups contribute to politicians, compared to what I contribute which is zilch. To whom, if you were a hands-out money grubbing politician would you pay attention? DUH, easy answer, huh? There are those who feel President Bush lied to cause the invasion of Iraq. The WMD thing is looked upon as untrue. Sure, we didn’t find any. Nobody found any. Who knows, they could turn up anytime, warheads fueled with Nigerian yellowcake headed toward Gotebo, Oklahoma? Sure, and I really won the Nigerian lottery too!! Okay, bad example. How about the John Wayne-like “Mission accomplished!” statement from the deck of a ship far from the front? More Americans have died after that than died before. Maybe that’s another poor example. Okay, how about “Wars should be fought by the Generals, not the Congress." The pure truth is that there have been no Generals or Congressmen killed in Iraq. The ones dying are the ones who were sold a bill of goods about fighting them there, not here. Our borders are so porous that Osama Bin Laden could ride through on a camel and set up housekeeping in Texas undetected. I would suggest Crawford, Texas to him. It is used to rude and weird behavior. I guess I could continue to find examples of truth to be emitted by a politician, but life is just too short. Let’s just accept the fact that our country has been taken by deception and continue to look the other way. I do really wonder what would happen if more than sixty per cent of Americans were to vote. Might be a resurgence of truth and honor in government. How unique??
Let’s cut to the heart of the matter. I am not enamored with the President, George W, Bush, or his apparent control, Vice President Dick Cheney. In my humble opinion they have shredded the rights accumulated by citizens over the first two hundred years as a nation. America always has had her problems. We have had poor farms where debtors were imprisoned for failure to pay their debts. We had children working in sweatshops so they could eat. We had slaves who we worked like mules. We had mines that polluted so badly that the land is still unusable. We had class wars where the wealthy were able to pass laws that almost made them Emperors. We had the Pinkerton Detective Co. who busted heads for the rich. We had newspaper wars over turf. Americans arose and overcame all the above. Unions of workers were formed to prevent individual retaliation. Sweatshops were eliminated, as they should be. Today someone like Donald Trump declares bankruptcy in order to obtain more favorable financing. He is called a good businessman. When those of the middle class or below file they are considered scum. Go figure!! The class war is still with us. Today it is called outsourcing. Companies close plants in America and go to Taiwan, Pakistan, China, or wherever seventeen cent per hour labor is available. This low cost labor often works in sweatshop conditions. The companies do not care. What’s good for the bottom line is what produces annual bonuses larger than the worker bees will earn in a lifetime. President Ronald Reagan, hailed by many as a great American President, broke the back of the unions. He led the way for the current administration to shamelessly feather their nests. The last few years under Republican control has elevated white-collar crime to an art form. Kenny Lay, close associate of the Bush family stole hundreds of millions from those who worked for and invested in his company. He died before sentencing so his ill-gotten gains are safe for his family to enjoy. Jeff Skilling, his associate received a smaller sentence than a marijuana salesman in Oklahoma. Through all of this the politicians continue to wine and dine corporations in order to get donations for their election funds. How can you wine and dine someone that you should be investigating without looking the other way. Telephone companies, drug companies, oil companies, banking firms all put large sums of money into play. For this they receive such favorable legislation that Americans should just vote out everyone. Starting over would disrupt the status quo, and it sorely needs disrupting. Through it all Bush screams terror, Cheney yells Iran, and I swear Washington D.C. has hurt me most of all. Can’t say too much or I can’t fly. Can’t travel, they might not let me back into my country. Our forefathers would rebel once again and they wouldn’t need to look overseas to find the enemy. Citizens of Crawford, beware, there is a rabid dog in your midst!!
Natalie Maines, of the Dixie Chicks, in the year of our Lord 2003 apologized for the fact that President Bush shared her beloved Texas as a home state. The resulting furor was tremendous. Country music stations dropped the Chicks like they were hot rocks. Record sales plummeted. Through it all the entire world waited for THE apology, the part where Miss Maines caved and capitulated. It just didn’t happen. Truth, to Miss Maines, is an absolute. She spoke her mind and meant it. This put President Bush in second place in this battle because he has no mind. He wouldn’t recognize truth if it sat next to him as he preened and postured in church. Otherwise the world would not have those ridiculous “Mission Accomplished” film bits and sound bites at which to scoff. Time passes. The Dixie Chicks, while seemingly unforgiven by radio stations, win award after award from the public. Their album, Not ready to make nice yet, sold millions of copies. The world voted for the Dixie Chicks, and they didn’t even have to rig machines to win. They just stood proud and spoke the truth. In the meantime President Bush has fouled up everything he has touched. We now spend THREE BILLION DOLLARS A WEEK fighting a nonsensical war. This war is funding so many cronies that will continue to support Bush and his bunch even as their head is buried in the U.S. Treasury trough!! The passage of time has taught me one thing. ALL Texans are not bad. Miss Maines would do a better job in the oval office than Bush has done. With Miss Maines in charge Dick Cheney would just disappear. He has shown he can’t do harmony!! All in all, time gives the nod to the Dixie Chicks, and the extended middle digit to the President. He enjoys? dismal popularity numbers. The country is opposed to him at about a three-to-one ratio. He doesn’t care. He is the DECIDER with access to the U.S. Treasury. It has been reported that he beats his chest screaming, “I am the President,” to those in attendance. Who seems the nut in this story? Sweet Miss Maines and her Dixie Chicks, or megalomaniac, insecure George W. Bush? The passage of time will continue to show Miss Maines and honor and truth will overcome the lying dog in the White House!!
President George W. Bush, the one that may have been elected, has once again shown his contempt for Congress, and the Constitution. We elect a President every four years. It’s a job, not an appointment. NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER, have we anointed a King to rule us in a sovereign manner. In fact those who overthrew a King founded America. Even then we knew what we did not want. We may not always do what is best. We may not always know what we want. But, one absolute is that we know what we do not want!! No man and no job is above the law in America. Sure, you can have a yes-man Attorney General who will say that whatever you want is legal…but that doesn’t make it so!! There is in this land a Supreme Court that is sworn to uphold the laws of the land, not the whims of a despotic leader, or his appointees. Unfortunately this administration has had several appointments to the Supreme Court. They are as of yet untested as to where their loyalties lay. Will they support the bunch that hired them, or will they support the Constitution of the United States?? Time will tell. It is past the time for partisan politics. It is time to be citizens, not members of a good-old-boy bunch of politicians. Congress must initiate Contempt proceedings against the President and Vice President of the United States of America. To continue to indulge the antics of this pair may well do irreparable harm to our country!! We are involved in a war against terrorism that costs us TWELVE BILLION DOLLARS PER MONTH, every month. This is a part of a coalition movement put together by President Bush and his gunslingers. I wonder if any other country involved in the charade of a coalition spends that Twelve Billion annually? I really doubt it. Congress has called for an end to the war this year. President-King Bush says “NO.” Congress is involved in attempting to determine the legality of actions undertaken by the Attorney General’s office. President-King Bush says, “So what, he is MY man.” Congress has subpoenaed records and testimony from the Justice Department. President-King Bush says, ”Nope, Executive privilege, you know.” Congress has subpoenaed records of who has been to Vice President Cheney’s office to conduct government business. President-King Bush AND Vice President-King Cheney say, “No, not anyone’s business. My office, my records!” Many years ago in Boston, Mass. boarding ships belonging to the King and throwing tea overboard started a revolution. That isn’t really what started the revolution. It started because it was time. The people had put up with all the Kingly nonsense they intended to endure. If not the Tea Party, it would have been something else. If Congress does not set about restoring our country to its previous status, we need a new Congress. Democrats and Republicans alike have tired once more of Kingly behavior. Impeach, imprison, do what is necessary. Consider this your last chance before the elections to do the right thing. Next year you may be outsourced to oblivion. Get it right, for God’s sake!!
Somewhere in America this Independence Day President George W. Bush will mount a podium and continue to lie to the American people. He may wear a $4,000. suit and look urban. He may wear jeans and a casual shirt and look homey. What I will see is a clown in an Uncle Sam costume, red, white, and blue top hat and all standing with his fists raised in the air, middle digits extended saying, “ Laws, we don’t need no stinking laws. I am the DECIDER." He proved that with his earlier commutation of Scooter Libby’s jail sentence. He and Dick Cheney have further shown disdain for the law by holding themselves and their offices above it. This has to be the most villainous administration in American history. If it isn’t, I defy someone to name one that tops it!! They have scorned Congress, The Judicial system, and the will of the people. They have stomped on freedom more so than any external enemy in our history. A few years ago one of the Dixie Chicks decried sharing a state with the President, wishing he were from somewhere else other than her beloved Texas. I will go further and wish he were born outside our borders so he could not have ever run for office. His actions make me puke!! I only wish that history books were capable of deleting history, but that just isn’t the case. Depending on who is in power for years to come we will hear the exploits of DECIDER GEORGE, hero to all, or the BUFFOON in the Uncle Sam suit that lied to us all. I sure hope sanity returns to America and we can put these despots behind us!! Hurrah for Senator Reid!! Well, the cat’s out of the bag now. A Democratic Senator spoke out regarding the poor leadership of the war in Iraq by the military Generals. He was speaking more of General Pace than anyone else, but I think all leadership there has been poor since the inception of the invasion. We had troops there without body armor. We had Humvees without protective coverings. Leadership probably wasn’t overly concerned. They were not in the Humvees. They were not at the front. No, when necessary they assign a delegation of soldiers, with attendant Humvee support, to haul visiting politicians to marketplaces where they buy sunglasses. Then they go to the Officer's Club and talk about how well things are going. Joe Lieberman and John McCain looked absolutely foolish after their visits. I will never forget the image of Lieberman in a set of body armor, wearing a helmet. He looked like a sixth grader playing Army with his buddies. They speak now of soccer fields that are usable. They speak of markets as if they are safe. They are not safe. The insurgents can strike markets at will. They bomb Mosques at will. They send mortars into the Green Zone. Yet, our Generals say, “All is well.” Over three thousand five hundred Americans have died in Iraq. The Iraqi government is still incapable of leading the country. There are hundreds of thousands of displaced Iraqis, but, so say the Generals, “All is well.” Generals who attempt to tell President Bush something other than what he wants to hear are transferred, and many are taking early retirement. Many of those who have retired have formed an alliance that has attempted to inform the public of the problems faced in Iraq, but the media doesn’t pay much heed to them. This administration, while complaining about the liberal press, controls the press more than any other in history. This administration has taken “Spin” to record heights. Look at the Jessica Lynch episode, for an example. None of what was told as true, by the press, was true. They just said what they were told to say. The government doesn’t even pay for transport to a deceased soldiers home. They pay to the nearest major airport. They don’t recruit them there. They can find the small towns |
